Fishing in the Lake District

Fishing boat in the Lake District

With the wealth of lakes, tarns, rivers and costal areas in Cumbria – the Lake District, the Lake District is a fisherman’s paradise, not to mention the breathtaking backdrop of Lakeland fells, undulating hills and England’s highest mountains.

Whatever your level or whether you are fishing for salmon, brown trout, pike or carp the Lake District is the perfect destination for a fishing break or holiday.

If you are a ‘fisher-widow’ then there are a plethora of places to visit from historic houses to quaint villages with delightful specialty shops.

Lingmoor Guest House’s central location means taking advantage of the array of fishing on offer is easy, from the coast to the lake or river. You could even indulge in some expert tuition with one of the qualified instructors in the area.

There are a number of fishing restrictions in the Lake District when fishing on Lake District waters – particularly National Trust waters where no live bait or leads are to be used. The appropriate permits should also be obtained.

There are also a host of well-stocked fisheries:

Esthwaite Water towards Hawkshead west of Windermere and Bowness offers Rainbow and brown trout through the season. Winter fishing for the native population of specimen pike is legendary. A first class, well managed fishery with excellent facilities for boat or bank angler. Methods include fly, spinning and worm. Beginner or expert, our friendly and knowledgeable staff offer a warm welcome and ensure your visit to Esthwaite Water is an enjoyable experience.

Ennerdale Water comes under the environment agency regulations and has rare fish species including the deep water artic char which tastes like a cross between salmon and trout.
