The Lake District provides the perfect backdrop for cycling breaks. The terrain of the Lake District makes it the perfect location for cycling holidays and caters for mountain biking over Lake District peaks or specially developed valley trails or Grizedale Forest – a great family day out.

Road cyclists looking for cycling breaks will be in a haven of tranquil roads – whether its day riding or touring the backdrop of the Lakes and fells is the perfect setting.

There are a number of places that visitors can hire bikes:

Country Lanes Cycle Hire based at the top of Windermere Village in the Lake District National Park, are the leading local cycle hire and touring experts. Open 7 days a week until 31st October 2008, they have two cycle hire centre’s, one by Windermere train station, the other at Lakeside Newby Bridge.

The other cycle hire is at the YMCA at Waterhead in Ambleside.

Grizdale Forest visitor centre near Ambleside in the lake district offers Go Ape an activity course set in the forest with cargo nets, rope slides etc..They also offer mountain bike hire for the splendid bike routes through the forest and of course walking, through the forest. They have superb children’s play area with great climbing frames and a good cafe and shop.
